Knuckle Boom Repair

Debarking drum lines, pulp & paper mills and nearly all sawmills depend on the continuous operation of their knuckle booms. K-booms are designed to rapidly and continuously move log inventories between staging areas. They are part of the "critical-path" in production. When a boom becomes disabled for maintenance, that portion of log-processing stops immediately. The frequent practice of "side-loading" can cause a boom to break down more frequently. Often, emergencies happen at an in-opportune time, when demand for logs is high and available manpower for repair of equipment is low.

K Machine provides all the (mobile & shop) resources necessary to immediately disassemble, transport, repair and re-install your knuckle boom when an emergency occurs. We employ mobile crews of mechanics, tractors and flat-bed trailers, certified welders and repair technicians who all have experience in repairing K-booms. 

We sandblast all welds and test these areas for cracks.  We offer "re-enforcement upgrades" and "steel doubler-plate" installations around swivel points and areas of high fatigue.  We consult with you on the in-coming inspection details and provide a list of repair recommendations. We have the capabilities to manufcature or fabricate new parts, replace all bushings, pins, hydraulics and hardware. Essentially, we can provide you with a completely restored knuckle boom.  We also offer replacement and installation of Rotec bearings and rings.

Following repairs and a new coat of paint, our crews will re-install the boom at your facility. We work 24 hours a day, every day, until your knuckle boom is back in operations at 100% capacity. We understand "this is an emergency." Your project will be expedited as an emergency until it's completed.
